Learning Growing Achieving Together
“Development can only take place when children are actively involved, when they are occupied with a high, non-stop degree of concentration, when they are interested, when they give themselves completely, when they use all their (mental) abilities to invent and make new things and when this gives them a high degree of satisfaction and pleasure.” Ferre Laevers
At Woolenwick Infant and Nursery School we are passionate about instilling a love of learning in all children. We provide an enjoyable and engaging curriculum that builds upon children’s interests, leading to excellent outcomes. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and skills needed to become independent and resilient learners. High value is placed on supporting children to be curious and creative learners who think for themselves and ask questions about events that take place in the world around them. All stakeholders understand the value of learning dispositions for lifelong learning. Being resourceful, building relationships, being resilient, taking calculated risks and being reflective are golden threads that permeate throughout our curriculum.
Our pedagogy values the rights of the child and recognises each child as a unique, competent learner, curious and capable of constructing their own learning. Educators listen to the children’s enquiries and facilitate their research. As active learners, children take risks, persist, and test their hypotheses. We enable children to have an active role in school and within the community. Our approach is research and evidence based and references the work of Froebel and the pre-schools and toddler centres in Reggio Emilia, Northern Italy. We do this through ongoing research and through membership of the Sightlines Network.
We are committed to being an actively anti-racist school where all children experience a culturally rich and diverse education.
We are committed to working in support of the UN’s Sustainable Global Goals, recognised by our long-standing accreditation as a Green Flag ECO School. We understand that our environment has a profound effect on how we feel, how we learn, how we perform and how well we relate to others. Whether educating children inside or outside, the environment we create is carefully considered to ensure quality, effective, learning experiences that will last a lifetime.
